SYSTEM
Ostensibly works on a Level Up system that is only loosely moderated by us, the Staff.
EXPERIENCE
Ostensibly is a mostly open universe. So, in the spirit of that freedom, your character's power and abilities can be advanced in almost any way you can imagine! That means by simply RPing and developing your character, you will grow stronger. While in most games you'd find that your level increases when completing quests, defeating monsters or by training; but that is not necessarily the case in Odendum. Your Level Ups are determined by us OOCly, on a case-by-case ruling where you decide when the right time to advance is!
Remember that Ostensibly follows a timeline separate from our own. The In-Character world moves at twice the pace of our real world, meaning that one week OOC will be two weeks IC, one month is two months, and so on. Keep in mind that Heroes will have limits as to how much they can grow in any given time — you won't be going from a freshly summoned Hero to a level 50 veteran in a few short weeks. Your growth will take some time, but don't be discouraged! Depending on the work that you put into your RP, you could find yourself gaining a level or two for completing an extremely arduous thread!
Here's just a few examples of how you can level up your character:
↳ CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT Your main goal with your character will always be their development. Doing things to further their growth or become different, whether it be for better or worse, will net you experience. This experience is more of a bonus that will attach itself to other types of methods; meaning if you have a significant change in your character's personality during a quest, or something that shifts their worldview during a casual affair, so forth, you will receive multiple types of experience that counts toward your plea to Level Up!
↳ BATTLES There is perhaps no better form of combat practice than combat itself! Be it a spar with a friend or a fight for your dear life, characters gain OOC experience from real IC combat experience.
↳ QUESTS AND DUNGEONS Quests provided by the leader of a hemisphere, a guild, or even just from a help board in the pub, will offer rewards for completion. This includes quests, side quests, exploration, dungeon conquering and so much more. Completing these massive or dangerous tasks with your fellow Heroes will grant huge amounts of experience and can advance the story of Ostensibly. Find a party and you and your new friends will be famously strong in no time.
↳ RAIDS & EVENTS Raids and events are handled completely by staff and will be DM'd by them. These events are challenging yet rewarding, and will start towards the middle of progression all the way into the end game! Completing a raid or event (seeing it through actively) will not only reward you with huge experience, but will also gain you unique and limited-edition loot!
LEVELING UP
Although we have used terms like experience, advancement and use strict number stats in some areas of Ostensibly, leveling up is based entirely on how you feel! YOU get to decide when your character has been through enough to earn them the right to advance a level, and YOU will be the one to present your case! In the Level Up board, you can make a post any time detailing why you believe your character has earned the right to advance to the next level.
With this, you will present what new abilities you'd like to engage.
↳ ODD LEVELS Every odd level your hero advances to, they receive 2 stat points that you're free to distribute wherever you'd like. Be sure to keep in mind that Level 20 is the cap, so you'll only get 20 stat points total for the 6 available stats.
↳ EVEN LEVELS Every even level your hero advances to, they receive an ability point that can be used to raise the rank of one of your abilities, or gain a whole new ability of novice rank. Please keep in mind the level requirements for each ability points when you receive them. Feel free to save them until you achieve a level you'd like to use them at.
